How to Renew Your France Helisurface Permit (2026)

If your French helisurface authorisation is approaching expiry, renewal is now handled through the Prefecture de Police online process. Since the newer system uses a 3-year validity window (instead of the previous 10-year cycle), many pilots will hit renewal in 2026.

Who This Affects

This process applies to pilots renewing permanent authorisation to use helisurfaces in France. If your original approval was issued under the newer rules, expect renewal at 3 years.

Where to Submit the Renewal

Submit your application through the Prefecture de Police website:

Navigation path if you start from the homepage:

  1. Démarches et services en ligne
  2. Un particulier
  3. Transports
  4. Aviation Civile

Timing Rule: Do Not Apply Too Early

The authority requires you to submit a complete and valid application via the Prefecture de Police website 2 months before the end date of your previous authorization.

Do not submit by email or post: the prefecture states those submissions will be rejected. Applications submitted too early may also be dismissed without action.

Documents You Should Prepare

  • A photocopy of your identity card or passport
  • A photocopy of your valid private or professional pilot licence
  • A photocopy of your valid medical certificate
  • A photocopy of the last 3 pages of your flight log
  • A copy of your previous authorization issued in 2023

Important Form Limitation

The prefecture has emphasised that in a 3-year cycle, personal details can change (for example home address), so every renewal document should be current, valid, and legible.

Practical tip: scan all required files into one folder before you start the submission. If documents are invalid or illegible, the application can be dismissed.

Validity Period After Renewal

Current renewals are issued with a 3-year validity period. After approval, diary the next renewal window immediately to avoid a last-minute compliance problem.
