FEC Heliports collaborated with the Royal Engineers, Help Appeal, and The Isle of Gigha Heritage Trust to install a lifesaving helipad on the Isle of Gigha. The helipad uses the HEMS-Station® Solar Plus lighting system and a wind indicator.
The new helipad at Gigha Airfield enables 24/7 operations for the Scottish Air Ambulance and coastguard, transporting critically ill patients to mainland trauma centres.
Working in conjunction with Derry Building Services Limited and SDC, FEC Heliports Worldwide Limited were able to complete the installation of a perimeter and aiming circle lighting system with pilot activated air to ground control at Silverstone within 3 weeks of order and in time for the British Grand Prix.
The completed system includes PAD-Star® surface mounted perimeter lights and PAD-Star® inset flush lights defining the aiming circle all controlled via the PAD-Star® Lighting Controller which enables either traditional air to ground VHF pilot control, wireless control using Bluetooth enabled laptop or manual control via the front panel keypad and screen.
The FEC Heliports PAD-Star® Pilot Controlled Lighting system is a LED helipad lighting system with both visible and Infra-Red (IR) Night Vision Goggle (NVG) Compatible LEDs complete with Variable Light Intensity: ICAO plus additional light levels for both visible and infra-red LEDs: 1%, 3%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 75% & 100%
Leading specialists in air ambulance operations conducted a flight to test a new PAD-Star® light installation at James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) in Norfolk, United Kingdom reporting back the following: “The lights were clearly visible at 2 miles on our approach from the west, were more easily seen in the circuit than the old lights, and the 30%/50% function worked. IR lights are also clearly seen using NVGs.”
FEC Heliports recently supplied Applecross Doctors Surgery, NW Scotland, with one of their market leading HEMS-Star® Portable Lighting Systems for use on their self-funded helipad. They can now provide a 24/7 medivac facility to the surrounding local community, when critical care is vitally required.
